Our History

Since 2009, BioLogos has helped people explore, embody, and delight in the harmony of faith and science.

Origins

BioLogos began with Francis Collins, one of the world’s leading scientists.

In 2006, Collins wrote The Language of God (2006), the best-selling book that told the story of his journey from atheism to Christian faith, showing that science is not in conflict with the Bible, but actually enhances faith.

The outpouring of response to the book showed the need for virtual and actual meeting places to ask questions, discuss issues, and learn from the top Christian minds in the sciences and theology.

The Beginning of BioLogos

Collins founded BioLogos to fill this need.

In 2009, we launched our website, creating a place where Christians could explore questions about faith and science with curiosity and openness. Resources like our Common Questions series quickly became trusted guides for readers seeking thoughtful engagement with difficult topics.

Later in 2009, we held our first of several annual events in New York City, hosted by pastor Tim Keller, for leading pastors and theologians to gather with believing scientists for dialogue and worship.

Under the leadership of President Darrel Falk, our daily blog grew to thousands of readers, and we began new programs including the “Biology by the Sea” workshop for high school teachers (2010-2012). Falk brought BioLogos into conversation with Southern Baptist leaders and with Reasons to Believe, leading to the 2017 book Old Earth or Evolutionary Creation?

Expanding Our Impact

In 2013, Deborah Haarsma became President and the organization relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan.  From 2013-2015, we ran the “Evolution and Christian Faith” grants program, which funded 37 projects across North America and Europe.  In 2015, we began our biennial “Faith & Science” conference that is held at locations around the country. Our website continued to grow into a rich resource of articles, blog posts, and personal stories from hundreds of authors. In 2016, we published a book of essays How I Changed My Mind about Evolution, which began our book series with InterVarsity press.

In 2019, we expanded our topics to address many areas at the intersection of Christ-centered faith and rigorous science, including creation care and medicine & bioethics. Also that year, we launched our podcast Language of God, engaging our topics with interviews, stories, and on-site experiences.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, BioLogos provided the best-available public health information in a fully Christian framework, and hundreds of faith leaders signed our Christian Statement on Science for Pandemic Times. In 2021, we released our Integrate curriculum for high school students, now used in Christian schools and homeschools across the country.

BioLogos Today

Today, we are dedicated to applying our unique strength of bringing harmony to faith and science where it will have the most impact.

Our website is visited by hundreds of thousands of people every year. Our Language of God podcast has drawn more than two million downloads all time, and our social media content attracts more than one hundred thousand views every month.

We’ve also increased our real-world impact. In 2026, we formed the Creators for Creation cohort to teach a group of Christian content creators how to talk about creation care with their online audiences. We have also developed a series of resources bringing faith and science together, including guides to worship God in creation and to care for creation in community.
